Problem

Heuristic analysis of the predicate interface surfaced improper use of primary functions, excessive cognitive load, and too many hidden functions.

Organizing inputs around information

Preliminary concepts paired user inputs with their corresponding information to cut error rates and cognitive load, then went through multiple refinement rounds across use cases and user types.

Testing

Catching errors before they shipped

Robust testing of layout, input semantics, and displayed information caught a critical problem: users missed "set temperature" as the button to start the oven and accidentally turned it off by hitting on/off twice. We course-corrected before the spec was finalized.

VFD and LED display treatments were explored for optimal readability of target and actual temperature before the final concept was specified and transferred to the client for development.
